We are excited to announce the opening of our new Literacy Loft! This dedicated learning space is designed for students and teachers to explore learning and fun through reading, games, crafts, storytelling, and all the wonderful experiences a cozy library can provide! Our Preschool and PreK programs visit the Literacy Loft at least once a week, with the following goals in mind:
- Foster a love for literature
- Exposure to early-literacy skills such as letter identification, rhyming, sequencing, and understanding narrative structure
- Build vocabulary, comprehension, and communication skills through frequent storytimes
- Develop a reading routine through frequent visits to “check out” books, showing that reading can be an on-going habit rather than an occasional activity
- Allow children to “check out” their own books, which encourages decision-making and responsibility
- Introduce children to diverse stories and characters, in order to broaden their understanding of the world and promote inclusivity
