Children enjoy visiting Construction Corner on a weekly basis to build with blocks, pretend to be construction workers, design towns and buildings, engage in imaginative play, and more! We believe that playing with blocks is crucial for children’s development for several reasons:
- Children enhance their problem solving skills as they plan, experiment, and adjust their designs
- Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination are improved, which are essential for tasks like writing
- Block play allows for open-ended play as children use their imagination and creativity to create different structures and play scenarios
- Spatial reasoning is enhanced as children learn what shapes fit together and how to visualize objects in three dimensions
- Social skills are improved as children learn to work together, share, negotiate, and communicate with their peers
- Math skills are strengthened through activities such as counting blocks, identifying shapes, and exploring balance and symmetry
